OF CENTRAL ASIA

Edited and Translated by
George W. O'Bannon and Ovadan Amanova-Olsen

Originally published in Russian, Moshkova's Carpets of the People of Central Asia is the most important book published on Central Asian rugs. It includes chapters on the history of weaving, techniques, dyes, and designs. Specific chapters are devoted to Uzbek, Kyrgyz, and Arab rugs. Five chapters cover rugs of Salor, Saryk, Tekke,Yomud, Choudur, and Ersari Turkmens.

This English translation includes color illustrations of rugs from museum collections in Tashkent, Samarqand, Bukhara, and Ashgabat studied by Moshkova. Commentaries on each rug chapter by the editors include information on current attributions and critical remarks on problems in the text. Special sections focusing on Karakalpak, Eagle-gol, Arabachi, and Kizyl Ayak-type rugs have been added.
